[MANNAM World News] Obama to Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Korean War Armistice

President Obama will commemorate the 60 year anniversary of the Korean War armistice today, marking the end of hostilities on the peninsula.
Communist North Korea invaded South Korea with 135,000 troops on June 25, 1950, and three years later with more than 2.5 million dead, including more than more than 36,000 Americans who died in combat, the war ended.
Joined by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Obama will lay a wreath at the memorial in Washington, D.C.
On Thursday, Obama issued a declaration making today National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, noting that the conflict “defined a generation and decided the fate of a nation.”
“We remember ordinary men and women who showed extraordinary courage through 3 long years of war, fighting far from home to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met,” Obama said in his proclamation. “This anniversary marks the end of a war. But it also commemorates the beginning of a long and prosperous peace.”
It is often referred to as the “Forgotten War,” because fighting half a world away garnered little domestic attention at the time. But the remnants of the conflict are still felt today. North Korea and South Korea remain divided, and there is still no peace treaty between the two countries.
According to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs there are still 2 million living veterans of that war.
“No monument will ever be worthy of their service, and no memorial will fully heal the ache of their sacrifice,” Obama said in the proclamation. “But as a grateful nation, we must honor them — not just with words, but with deeds.”

The divided Koreas remain technically at war since an armistice stopped fighting between them in 1953. The Korean War is a national tragedy (for our people). The division of the Korean Peninsula became permanent after the Korean War.  And this year is the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.
We still was not a united Korea. I hope that the day of reunification would come as soon as possible.
To do that, I work hard with MANNAM Volunteer Association for the unification of the Korean Peninsula. Also, we are of one mind  Man Hee Lee, peace advocate who struggled for the world peace.

[MANNAM International] MANNAM Busan South Sports team went to play badminton

July 26th 2013 our MANNAM Busan South sports team went to play peace badminton all together which was our first time.

The place was opened in a Gym near Nopo subway station. At first we thought if playing badminton was a good idea because the weather was hot and it was hard to get a place to play.

But, though the location was kind of far, it was just a good place to play all together. It was really amazing that 5 foreigners came to play in our first open badminton.

We played on 1:1 and also in teams enjoying are time and having a meaningful day. I think next time we should prepare in comfortable clothes because it is really hot in the Gym.

[MANNAM is...] MANNAM Volunteer Association

We usually think that we should be paid for what we do, but the reason that we as MANNAM Volunteers work without payment is because joy is a greater payment.
We can show that example to the world and be role model for everyone.
This is an education without words.

[Peace Leader] Nelson Mandela

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.
If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart"

Nelson Mandela led the struggle to replace the apartheid regime of South Africa with a multi-racial democracy, and was the country's first black president.

This quote is particularly significant from a man whose words have had a huge impact across world politics. Mandela is famous for his personal struggle against oppression, imprisoned for the sake of social change. He said "I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities... It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

Nelson Mandela was born in 1918 into the Madiba tribal clan - part of the Thembu people - in a small village in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. He qualified as a lawyer and made it his vocation to campaign against apartheid, the system devised by the all-white National Party which oppressed the black majority.
As resistance to apartheid became violent, and in a climate of police brutality and clashes with protestors, Mandela, now Vice President of the African National Congress, launched a campaign of sabotage against the country's economy. He was eventually arrested and charged with sabotage and attempting to violently overthrow the government.
Despite many years in jail, he emerged to become He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Resistance to apartheid grew, mainly against the new Pass laws, which dictated where blacks were allowed to live and work.

Many people wish to world peace. However, they would not have had the courage and fortitude to achieve that. We must find a way of achieving a more access to peace.
To achieve this  we need a man of peace leader as Nelson Mandela.
I mentioned  several times, Man Hee Lee Peace Leader is indispensable for the world peace with Nelson Mandela in this generation  and he acts to work for the world peace as a peace advocate.
He tried hard to achieve his purpose. He have many good trits we can take on. We should copy his mind.

[MANNAM International] MANNAM Busan South soccer team "Titans" played soccer against "Roar" and Roar's friend team

Today our MANNAM Busan South soccer team “Titans" played soccer against "Roar" and Roar's friend team.

As we arrived at Silla university soccer field, it was so hot that it was good to us to bring ice water.

Though the weather was not that good we could enjoy our time playing good games each other.

We admitted our fouls and helped each other. And we could realize, though our MANNAM Titans have different country people, if our mind is one we don't struggle but enjoy our time.

That is what our MANNAM slogan is. "When light meets light there is victory." I hope as the time goes, the better we will be in one and share our minds each other. And also ice water is necessary to us during the hot weather :).

[MANNAM Volunteer] Talk, Play, Clean, and Volunteer!

April 28th Sunday
From the early morning, the MANNAM Volunteers gathered at Jongro 3ga station to clean up the street!
With tongs, brooms, and plastic bags in our hands, we enthusiastically got rid of the mess from the night before.
It was a fun experience.
While we were cleaning up the street, it was unusual for the residents to see foreigners to clean up the litter.
During the volunteering acitivity, I realized that just like we get things from the nature without any payment, we can also do something for it without wanting a reward.
After we were done with cleaning, we went up to Bukchon Hanok Village- the traditional house village right next to Insadong.
There were many awesome traditional houses from which we could feel Korean antiqueness.

One of our members said,
“I enjoyed today alot doing volunteer work, picking up trashes on the streets. It was very nice to do it from the morning but I feel sad there were lots of people so that I couldn’t clean as much as I had wanted to. And the BukChon village was very beautiful and it was really fun and good to have lunch with my friends in MANNAM after the work. I wish we have such events again!!”
In my perspective,  peace comes from doing goods to the people around. It doesn’t matter how you help them, but the important thing is that you are bringing happiness and peace to the world.

[MANNAM World News] Syria Conflict Kills Over 5,000 Children: 'Pray For Syria,' Says Girl Survivor

The lives of more than 5,000 children may have been lost to the civil war in Syria, according to recent reports, and now Open Doors USA has brought to international attention the testimonies of two young girls living in fear in the country where violence and killings have become almost a part of daily life for the nation's most innocent victims.
"It's scary. We hear a lot of bad stories about what is happening around us. On the streets there are soldiers everywhere. We see smoke from fighting and hear bombings all the time," said 13-year-old Youmna, a Christian girl who lives in Damascus, Syria with her sister, 10-year-old Nashita, according to Open Doors USA.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claims that around 100,000 people have been killed in the civil war between government forces and rebels, and among those numbers are 5,000 children under the age of 16.
"One day I was going to school by bus when we heard a shooting nearby," said Youmna. "So we all dived down, hiding under our seats, waiting until the shooting was over. Another day when we were at school there was an airplane very close by, threatening to bomb our school. We all had to go into the basement and stay away from the glass."
"My classmates and I were all very scared. Kids around me were crying and shouting at the teachers because they were so afraid. Some called their fathers crying to them that they wanted to go home," Nashita added.
The United Nations office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict can verify the reports of children being killed. To make matters worse, the children are sometimes being used as props of the war, and often 10-year-old boys are being used as combatants or porters.

"Syrian children are killed or injured in indiscriminate bombings, shot by snipers, used as human shields or victims of terror attacks," the organization said.
U.N. reports indicate that 1.3 million Syrian refugees have fled to neighboring countries and 4.2 million persons are displaced within Syria, with over half being children.
The two sisters are asking believers all across the globe to pray for their country and the victims of war.
"Please pray for the kids in Syria....that God will stop the bad things that are happening. Pray for the kids that have no food and the kids that lost their houses because of the war. Pray that God will free Syria from this evil and that all the people can come back. And also pray for my friend Lunah, so we can play together again," said Nashita.
"Please heed the requests of Youmna and Nashita to pray for Syria, especially for the innocent victims such as the young children," said Open Doors USA spokesman Jerry Dykstra. "Not only do the children face the daily violence of civil war, but they are also the targets of persecution, including kidnapping, because they are Christians."
Syria is No. 11 on the Open Doors 2013 World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians.
Note: The names of the sisters were changed for their protection.

Many children's faces are filled with smiles, hopes, and dreams of a better future. On the contrary, that children's suffer from war.
we need to work for the world peace for young children.

Born on July 18, 1918 in South Africa, Nelson Mandela was the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He played a pivotal role for black people in his country getting equal rights.
He is still the most admired man on the planet. He has retired from active politics but remains a concerned and influential citizen of the New South Africa. We hope that he will best of luck for a speedy recovery.

It is worth emulating his spirit who worked hard to make the world a peaceful place.

[MANNAM International] Hands to Hands:MANNAM Volunteer Association rallies to bring relief to Indian youth

Hands to Hands: MANNAM Volunteer Association rallies to bring relief to Indian youth

This Saturday, 6 July 2013, MANNAM Volunteer Association (MVA) held a donation drive at Jumong Elementary School. In May 2013, MVA began collecting stationary supplies for children in India. Following the catastrophic floods in the region, MVA expanded the project, collecting clothes, raincoats and shoes, which will be sent to youth in disaster stricken Uttarakhand. Already sponsors have stepped forward, providing some 200 pairs of shoes, clothing and other supplies.

In total, the drive brought in about 3000 units of stationary and 40 boxes, about 150kg, of supplies in Seoul alone. Around Korea, the 13 branches of MVA International will continue collecting supplies, and will ship them along with the other donations received. MVA is appealing to local and international shipping companies for help in delivering the goods to those in need.

One dedicated member commented, “The people of India are really suffering because of the recent disasters. I know the donations we send will not solve all their trouble, but I think we’d all be very grateful if something we did could help in some small way.”
“In India, the situation is such that relatively small donation from our side can have a very large impact in the lives of those suffering - especially the youth,” said a spokesperson for MVA.

One of the MVA’s members, and Indian citizen, Mr. Satish Kumar said, “ I have been with MANNAM for almost one year, I’ve been doing volunteer work... and I am doing my best... sacrificing time over the weekend - it’s not so easy, but it is all to help people.” Mr. Kumar expressed how hard it was to send encouraging words to people in such a terrible situation, but expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Indian military, who have been so supportive of the community devastated by the floods.
“They carried people through the waters on their shoulders,” he said holding back emotions, “It is very touching.”

The initial project was started at the suggestion of Mr. Ashok Shrivastav and Ms. Ritu Prashar, reporters from Doordashan News (DD News) that covered the World Peace Festival held in Korea in 2012. Inspired by the event, they have been working closely with MVA in India to promote world peace.

“Indian news agencies reported that even the Chief Minister of the region, Mr. Vijay Bahuguna said that he had been numbed by the sheer magnitude of the calamity,” said a spokesperson for MVA’s volunteer coordination team. At the event, Renuka, another Indian member of MVA told an interviewer, “We feel proud to be a part of this event so that we can be little help to others.”

[MANNAM Internationl] MANNAM Busan South Volunteer Activity

At June 29th 2013, our MANNAM Volunteer Association went on a stroll and saw the beautiful view of Busan. While we were walking up, we volunteered picking up trashes and we ook all together a picture.

While coming down we made rings with flowers and though it seems to be worthless it was a meaningful time to all of us.

Also we played a game which is sitting on the chair as fast as possible. As you can see the picture it is really simple how to play. Our MANNAM members walked around the circle and when the music stops we had to sit on the chair as fast as possible. The one who can't sit on the chair loses the game.

Finally we met the coolest stream we have ever seen. Well actually meant to say that it made us cool because the weather was hot and humid. Though is was a simple journey to us, we had a worthwhile time feeling the nature and had a great time.

[MANNAM Peace Quotes] Being peace by Thich Nhat Hanh

MANNAM, International  Youth Walk for World Peace & Restoration 2013

"I am breathing in and making my whole body calm and at peace.
It is like drinking a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day and feeling your body become cool inside.
When you breathe in, the air enters your body and calms all the cells of your body...
This is the key to meditation. Breathing brings the sweet joy of meditation to you.
You become joyful, fresh, and tolerant, and everyone around you will benefit."

[MANNAM World Peace] International Day of Peace

Do you know when the international day of peace is ?

It has been suggested by Dr. Jo Young – Sik in June, 1981.
UN accepted this proposal and the third Tuesday in September that annual general meeting of the United Nations is held become “International Day of Peace”.
In 2002, the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the date for the International Day of Peace.

International Day of Peace is also called ‘A day without gunfire“, stopping the war and violence around the world.
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) provides an opportunity to make practical acts of peace.
Through International Day of Peace, those who can not do behaviors and practices for peace in usual days can think about peace and realize the meaning of it even a single day.
During the discussion of the U.N. Resolution that established the International Day of Peace, it was suggested that:
“Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples…This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace.”
International day of peace has grown faster, each year, many events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day.

Everyone wants peace of the world without war. But no matter how you want, distrust between countries interferes with peace around the world. People have different ideas, different opinions, and different purposes.
The most important thing is, removing distrust between each other and having same thoughts. If all people around world have same thinking, there could be only peace.
Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. Please join us and let’s make peace!

[MANNAM Wolrd News] Volunteers clean up over 600kg of beach trash from Brunei beach

By Daniel Wood
 The Brunei Times/Asia News Network
 Monday, Jul 01, 2013

MUARA - A total of 635.5kg of rubbish was collected in a span of almost two hours during a clean-up of Tungku Beach yesterday dubbed by organisers as their largest campaign of the year.
Organised by the Beach Bunch, 820 volunteers comprising family and friends from various schools and organisations as well as members of the public combed the littered beach, picking up garbage for disposal and recycling for the event, in conjunction with World Environment Day which fell on June 5.
Closely aligning to its motto of "Keeping our beaches clean and enjoyable", the Beach Bunch said that the event's main aim was to see people from all backgrounds come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
Running up to the morning activity, the Beach Bunch had been expecting a record turnout, with more than 1,600 participants registering online. Nevertheless, the final number was a huge encouragement, almost equalling the total of 847 volunteers achieved at the same event last year.
"Some of the organisations who had planned to come today had to miss it due to unforseen circumstances. Most importantly, we still managed to have fun while cleaning up the entire beach," said Beach Bunch President, Rizan Latif.
Kicking off at 7.30am, volunteers split up into three camps, covering an area of 4.5 sq kms. Two Beach Bunch members led each camp, supported by volunteers from Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College (MTSSR).
The teams carried all the trash they picked up at collection centres at each camp, where it was then segregated into general trash for disposal and plastic for recycling. Out of the total amount of rubbish collected, 152.5kg was recyclable plastic.

Even though something is not planned, gathering in the same place and having one mind and volunteering is the true volunteer. By just one single person can't have or achieve the effect they wan. However if we gather together and give power each other we will receive the effect we want.
MANNAM Volunteer Association also need having one mind.

Let's make the world a better place by helping and loving each other! With MANNAM Volunteer!
